What is officially confirmed
Xbox’s January 2026 Developer_Direct recap states that the combat experience can be adjusted with three difficulty settings. Game Freak also describes the combat as a fusion of fast real-time actions and Koo’s time-slowing command menu.
How to choose your starting mode
Use the first hour as a calibration session. Ask whether you can read attacks, attempt just guards, and still make meaningful Koo command decisions.
- If enemy pressure blocks all three tasks, choose the more forgiving setting.
- If the loop is readable but requires attention, keep the middle setting.
- If the loop is already predictable and you want less room for error, try the higher setting.
What we do not claim
We do not publish exact damage multipliers, parry frames, enemy-health values, or reward changes without a versioned test or official table. Review descriptions such as “easy,” “Sekiro-like,” or “hard” are subjective and can reflect different builds and player backgrounds.
A better comparison checklist
| Measure | Record before changing difficulty |
|---|---|
| Enemy attack | Same enemy and move |
| Player state | Same gear, skills, and health |
| Result | Damage taken, resource gained, and recovery time |
| Context | Platform, input method, and game version |
Can you change difficulty later?
The first-party pages reviewed for this guide confirm three settings but do not clearly document every restriction on changing them. Check the current in-game settings screen before assuming a change is always available mid-session or carries no consequence.
